The still quite young Pat Perry often starts from photography, but the way he handles it is often very figurative. This creates a wonderful field of tension that almost inevitably attracts attention. So too in this work, which obviously refers to the sea (including Oostende's seaside visitors), but also contains subtle references to James Ensor and Léon Spilliaert. Also typical of Perry: the division of the work into different planes.
