Guido van Helten is a phenomenon, and his gigantic, hyper-realistic portraits are obviously in between for something. The artist managed to portray Ostend fisherman Norbert De Smit perfectly. He stares at you wistfully, his face furrowed by his countless trips at sea. Van Helten thinks the eyes are most important, so he spent no less than five days on them.
